During her time at Sacramento State, Taylor made a total of 34 appearances. During the 2016 season Taylor made 11 appearances and finished the year with a 2-1 record with limited opportunities due to a deep pitching staff. Going into 2017 Taylor came out ready and performed up to her potential. She was Big Sky Pitcher of the Week twice and was named to the 2nd team All-Big Sky Conference Team after leading or tying for the team lead in appearances wins(8), ERA(2.83),strikeouts(152), starts(29), innings(138), and batting average against(.220) in 2017. Her BAA ranked 1st in conference and both strikeout and ERA were ranked 4th.
A second team all-Big Sky Conference selection after making a team-high 28 appearances in the circle…all 28 of those outings were starts…finished the season with eight wins, six complete games, two shutouts and a team-best 2.83 ERA…had 141 strikeouts in 131.0 innings and limited the opposition to just a .221 batting average…led or tied for the team lead in wins, ERA, starts, innings, strikeouts and opponents’ batting average…among Big Sky leaders, she was first in opponents’ batting average, and fourth in both strikeouts and ERA…two-time Big Sky Pitcher of the Week on March 22 and May 8…named the Sacramento State Student-Athlete of the Week on May 1…struck out 50 batters looking…won four of her final five decisions of the season…allowed two earned runs or less in each of her final six outings of the season, and in 18 appearances overall…threw a four-hit shutout against Weber State, and a one-hit shutout against Southern Utah…struck out a career-high 11 batters against Montana…also had 10 strikeouts vs. Northern Colorado…won four games and posted a 2.49 ERA with 73 strikeouts in 56.1 innings against Big Sky opposition…finished her two-year career with 10 victories and a 3.18 ERA in 156.1 innings pitched…a Big Sky all-academic selection.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento State senior Taylor Tessier was named the Big Sky Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week after helping the Hornets to a 2-1 record and series win at Portland State.
In two starts in the circle, the right-hander went 2-0 with a 0.64 ERA. She worked a total of 11.0 innings, allowing just nine hits and two runs (one earned) with 13 strikeouts. In addition, she yielded just one extra base hit during those 11.0 innings, and limited Portland State to a .220 batting average.
The weekly honor is the second of the season for Tessier who was also named conference pitcher of the week on March 22. It also marks the second straight week a Sacramento State player has been honored as junior Celina Matthias was recipient of the Big Sky's weekly pitcher award a week ago.
In the Hornets' 3-1 victory on Friday, Tessier threw a complete game, allowing five hits (all singles) and one unearned run in seven innings of work. She struck out seven batters, threw 110 pitches and held Portland State batters to a 1-for-13 clip (.077) with runners on base and 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position.
In Sacramento State's 4-2 victory on Sunday, the Santa Cruz, Calif., native allowed four hits and one run with one walk and six strikeouts in four innings.
In her last four appearances, Tessier is 3-0 with a 0.61 ERA. Overall, she is 7-12 with a team-best 2.88 ERA. In conference play, she is 4-5 with a 2.49 ERA. The ERA against conference opposition is the fifth best mark in the Big Sky, and the overall ERA is the fourth best mark.
Sacramento State concluded the regular season with a 20-26-1 overall record and a 10-10 mark in the Big Sky. The Hornets will now set their sights on this week's Big Sky Tournament in Ogden, Utah. The Hornets will be the No. 3 seed at the double elimination tournament and begin play on Thursday against No. 6 seed Idaho State at 11 a.m. PDT. The winner of the Big Sky Tournament receives an automatic berth into the NCAA Regionals.
